The Construction industry approved of the Hollywood Casino project, at speedway in Kansas City. On April 28th, 2010, the Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway broke ground. The ceremony began at 11 a.m. and it included notable guests such as Unified Government Mayor/CEO Joe Reardon, Lesa France Kennedy, Vice Chair and CEO, International Speedway Corporation; Tim Wilmott, President/COO, Penn National Gaming; Lt. Governor Troy Findley and Kansas Lottery Executive Director Ed Van Petten. It is said to be one of the area’s biggest and will show off a race-themed design capitalizing on its address. The designers of the $386 million casino describe it as Hollywood meets NASCAR. The casino has lots of film and racing memorabilia and also video displays. It also has 100,000-square-foot gambling floor segmented into areas resembling the movie studio back lots. For the local construction industry, the 268,000-square-foot casino already is proving to be a winner.
Nonresidential building activity was down 49 percent the first quarter of this year in the Kansas City metropolitan area, according to McGraw-Hill Construction. The unemployment rate in the local building trades is estimated at more than 25 percent. The Hollywood casino project is expected to employ 1,700 construction workers.Yaeger estimated that $180 million of the casino expense would be for hard construction. Besides the casino, the project includes a five-level garage with about 1,500 parking spaces. The entire complex covers 102 acres, with enough land set aside to accommodate a future expansion that includes a hotel with up to 300 rooms. The rest of the casino cost covers design work and the considerable expense of installing gambling machines and other furnishings.
The casino will have 2,300 slot machines and 86 table games, plus upscale food and entertainment amenities. The building architecture has an art deco flavor with subtle racing influences. The casino flows from the floor area in the front to the more open entertainment area facing the track. The track side has a beer garden with a view of the speedway. An integral part of the decor is the presence of many video screens, showing movie trailers and entertainment news the casino has a banquet area that can accommodate 1,000 people. The casino is expected to employ 1,050 people after it opens in early 2012.The Hollywood Casino is one of four regional casinos authorized by the state of Kansas in 2007.Management of the facilities is contracted out, but the owner is the Kansas Lottery. The regulating agency is the state Racing and Gaming Commission. Only one of the four casinos, in Dodge City, has opened so far.
The Hollywood, for the state’s northeast quadrant, will be the second and much bigger. Jeff Boerger, the president of the Speedway Development Corp., said the casino was expected to attract 400,000 people annually and gross more than $200 million. International Speedway Corporation is a leading promoter of motorsports activities, currently promoting more than 100 racing events annually as well as numerous other motorsports-related activities. The Company owns and/or operates 13 of the nation’s major motorsports entertainment facilities, including Daytona International Speedway(R) in Florida, Alabama, Detroit, Virginia, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Arizona, Chicago, etc…

(Dragonfish DealJanuary 31, 2010)The online casino group 888 Holdings Plc has an independent B2B division that goes by the name of Dragonfish. This group is a supplier of online casino software to the various holdings, subsidiaries and affiliates. 888 Holdings was pleased to announce that Dragonfish had signed a deal with Lex Online Entertainment Limited, which is a subsidiary of Centric Multimedia SA. They are going to be providing them with online casino and poker software. The deal has them supplying their two brands with all of their online casino and poker software, as well as their fraud and risk management, customer support, e-payment processing, and back office technology. They will be launching in several different languages as well, which will really open them up to the online casino market. Linden Lab’s Second Life (SL) is a virtual world launched on June 23, 2003 where users, called Residents, can explore, socialize, interact and create and trade virtual property and services with each other through avatars. Second Life has become a phenomenon worldwide, generating around $35 million of business every month, and the deal struck will see Dragonfish provide electronic payments, fraud and customer support management services to the company which predicts $0.5billion of business this year alone.
They are currently focusing on the South and Eastern European market, as they know that right now they are one of the hot spots for online casino gambling. There are so many areas out there that are saturated within the online casino industry that they wanted to branch out to other territories that are ready to go. Centric Multimedia distributes multimedia and software and already has many investments in the online casino gambling industry. This online casino deal will expand their presence in the market, and give them a much stronger standing. Not only that but they can use their existing channels to market their new online casino sites through a new campaign. The deal, which ties revenue streams from Cashcade brands including Foxy, Think and Cheeky into the Dragonfish platform until May 2014, follows the widespread mooting of a possible move off the network by 888 rival Party Gaming following PartyGaming’s buy of Cashcade in July 2009.
Dragonfish managing director Gabi Campos said PartyGaming’s decision to keep Cashcade on Dragonfish (which also avoids the disruptive effect of moving the bingo operator’s players to another platform) reflected the strength of the Dragonfish bingo software and back-end.Cashcade is the largest bingo operator in the UK, and owns standalone networks Foxy Bingo, Cheeky Bingo, Think Bingo, Little Big Bingo, Bingo Scotland and Foxy Zero, which are all powered by Dragonfish. PartyGaming also recently relaunched its ITV Bingo website via Cashcade. Dragonfish has been instrumental in propping up 888 Holding’s recent quarterly results, and managed to post a 15% year on year increase in revenue in Q3 when the company’s overall revenue saw a decline of 10%. This was mostly due to a series of recent deals struck by Dragonfish, with big businesses, including Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment and South Africa’s Tsongo Sun Gaming group, as well as being involved in launching poker and gaming in the Balkans. Dragonfish-owner 888 tied Wink and Posh Bingo into the Dragonfish network by acquiring the rooms from owners Daub for £60m in December 2009.
A new study released on Monday from an English gaming consulting company shows that the effects of regulating internet gambling in the United States would be greater than previously thought.
There have been numerous studies to demonstrate the amount of revenue that could be generated for the federal government through the legalization and regulation of online gaming. The study was done by H2 Gambling Capital, which provides a lot of marketing information. Data regarding the gaming industry, and is getting a great deal of attention from the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, which is the top advocate for the legalization of internet gaming in the United States. In the study, H2 Gambling Capital indicates that the potential benefits from the regulation of online gaming, including poker and sports betting would have a tremendous impact on employment and also add tax revenues. The numbers that H2 Gambling Capital has discovered in its study vastly outpace other studies that members of Congress have quoted. They said that if the United States were to regulate internet gaming, H2 Gambling Capital said that close to 32,000 jobs would be created over a short period of five-year time span. Perhaps most surprisingly, expenditures from regulated internet gaming in the United States would top $94 billion over the same period, generating $57.5 billion in tax revenues from wagering.
If the United States were to regulate the online gaming industry without allowing sports betting, H2 Gambling Capital’s models indicate that regulation would provide gross expenditures of $67 billion over five years, which would generate $30.8 billion in tax revenue and 25,470 jobs. These numbers are greater than those which Representatives Barney Frank (D-MA) have been trying to change the government’s perspective on online gaming. McDermott, who has introduced the Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act (HR 4976), has said that regulation would lead to $42 billion in new federal government revenues and $30 billion in new state revenues over ten years. Barney Frank has pushed for regulation of the online gaming industry in the U.S. with his bill – the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act (HR 2267) – and has been able to garner support for that legislation from 68 fellow Congressmen. According to London-based stockbroker Daniel Stewart, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has apparently stepped onto the online gaming bandwagon and could introduce legislation that may be passed before the November elections.
This most recent study was produced by H2 Gambling Capital, a data and market intelligence information supplier for the worldwide gambling industry, and its results were released on April 20, 2010. There isn’t much time left for Congress to act on internet gaming, as the June 1, 2010 deadline is near, for on that day, the full scope of the UIGEA and its regulations will go into effect. Frank’s bill has gained the most traction of all that have been introduced in the past several years, and with 65 sponsors and a successful committee hearing in December of 2009, it should undergo the markup process and find a forum in another committee. Regardless of the slow progress, it’s an encouraging sign for online poker players that there is still movement on the issue in Congress.

David Williams, found international fame with his runner-up finish in the 2004 World Series of Poker main event, took down the second-largest score of his career this weekend with his $1,530,537 win in the Bellagio’s World Poker Tour Championship. It was considered one of the crown jewels of the poker calendar; the Championship suffered a lot of loss in attendance for the third year running, with just 195 players putting up the $25,000 entry fee. Williams won the final table that was almost as noteworthy for who was missing as it was for who was there.
Deep runs by former WSOP world champions Phil Hellmuth and Scotty Nguyen had onlookers talking about either player joining Carlos Mortensen as the only players with both the WSOP and WPT crowns, but their twin ousters at seventh and eighth, respectively, left the focus on five remaining stars and one relative newcomer. Williams successfully defeated reigning Card Player Magazine Player of the Year Eric Baldwin in a final that lead to the entry of Williams to maintain a vast chip lead throughout. Baldwin’s elimination was the last on a day that saw former WPT winner Shawn Buchanan ($587,906) finish third, 2009 WSOP bracelet winner David Benyamine ($329,228) finish fourth, poker Hall of Farmer and seven-time bracelet winner Billy Baxter finish fifth and Irish online pro John O’Shea finish sixth as the first player eliminated at the final table. For Williams, the victory ended a drought of almost two years in which he failed to score a six-figure win. Among those changes was working with Sam Chauhan, the coach who had worked with Antonio Esfandiari In addition to the money, the victory ensures Williams a continued run in the spotlight that brought him his Bodog sponsorship.
For runner-up Baldwin, the high finish serves as validation for his Player of the Year title. Buchanan’s elimination in third place put an end to the WPT’s most wide-open Player of the Year race to date. While Faraz Jaka (the Player of the Year leader coming into the event) seemed poised to take the title when he held a chip lead with 18 players remaining, his 14th-place ouster left the door open for Buchanan, Hellmuth and Nguyen, each of whom needed to win the tournament to take the title. While it was a triumphant day for Williams, Baldwin and Jaka, this was not a triumphant moment for the WPT or the Bellagio. The 195 registrants were down from 338 a year ago, 545 in 2008 and 639 in 2007. The Bellagio’s unpopular decision to make preliminary tournaments at the annual Five Star World Poker Classic all rebuy events caused a sharp downturn in registration throughout the month. With so little action in-house, there was little incentive for players to attempt a parlay. With the EPT Championship in Monte Carlo and relatively little easy money in the field, there was little incentive for pros to make dual trips across the Atlantic. The Bellagio is already atoning for its miscues.
It was announced that next year’s Five Star series would be moved to May in order to incentivize early arrival for WSOP players, but there are real questions about whether this crown jewel has now been permanently damaged. For Williams, however, the decreased attendance allowed him to topple one of the toughest player-for-player fields of the year. As of 2010, his total live tournament winnings exceed $7,893,000. $4,299,996 of his live winnings have come at the WSOP, and most of the rest has come from the WPT.

A few months ago, the craze that got the whole online poker world buzzing when it first launched in ring games made a successful transition over to the tournament side. It was launched on 19th April 2010. The much hyped Rush Poker tournaments have arrived. On the very 1st day it attracted 892 players, not least of them being Team Full Tilt’s own Andy Bloch. The buy-in was only $1 and the format of the game was Rush Poker.
It is available only and exclusively at Poker. Players can experience the world’s fastest poker tournament. The site explains the whole new format and rules. It is already getting widespread support. Grinders who had grown accustomed to massive multi-tabling and even amateurs who hated waiting around for playable hands were mystified and amazed at the ability to “quick fold” and almost instantaneously move to a new table with a new batch of players to compete in the next hand. The concept is that the players join a large player pool in a ring game and face a different table of players every hand they play. As soon as they fold their hand, they’ll be moved to another table for their next hand. Just like its cash games, players can use the “quick fold” option throughout tournament play. However, in Rush tournament poker, once a final table is reached, the tournament is played out normally, with no additional seat changes. There is also no hand-for-hand play in tournament Rush poker and once less than 30 players remain, the tourney moves to short-handed play to maintain a swift speed. The blind levels are very short, the structure is similar to that of a turbo or super-turbo but with the quick fold feature an individual will see as many hands as in a regular speed tournament. This is a great change for MTTs as players can now compete in large tournaments in a much shorter time without having to cope with the time pressure of a turbo.
Currently, Full Tilt is running two sit-and-gos with the new format. Full Tilt is the world’s second largest online poker site. But it’s not just hold’em that is the benefactor of Rush tournaments. Full Tilt is also using the new craze to energize its low-stakes pot-limit Omaha tournaments. Although the site is introducing these tournaments slowly, Full Tilt has already tournaments from $20 ($2) double-stacked six-handed Rush tournaments (both turbo and regular speed) to $2 ($.20) eight-handed PLO Rush tourneys. Full Tilt’s no-limit hold’em Rush tourneys have already attracted big fields. A $10 (+$1) event on April 20th 2010 witnessed a field of 1,086 players, including a couple Red pros in Roy Winston and Monte Kouz. The Poker Skool at Pokerrakeback also have been working throughout the weekend to trial the new Rush Poker. The upcoming 16th Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS XVI) is said to be including three Rush Poker Tournaments: 1 Turbo, 1 Rebuy, and 1 Pot Limit Omaha Knockout. Rush poker is said to be the crack-cocaine of poker cash games!

Just over a month removed from the conclusion of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event, Harrah’s has released the schedule for the 2010 WSOP, to be held at the Rio in Las Vegas. Beginning May 27th, the annual poker festival will once again consist of 57 gold bracelet events, culminating with the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship, which is the main event.
The highlights of the 2010 WSOP are the new $50,000 Player’s Championship, an eight-game mixed event. It will replace the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event which is to be ceased from this year onwards. But there is also the new $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. championship event. Games include Limit Hold’em, Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, Seven Card Razz, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Omaha, and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball. The winner will receive the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy, as was the case with the H.O.R.S.E. event. And, like when Reese won the inaugural $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event in 2006, the final table will be strictly No-Limit Hold’em.Two other events will be run for the first time: $25,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em and $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Then again the physical size of the WSOP keeps growing.
In 2010, the Series will be played in both the Amazon Room and the Pavilion Ballroom, a total of 96,000 square feet. There will be approximately 350 tables allocated for the tournaments. Refreshments to be located in a food court in the Miranda Ballroom. Each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 1:00pm in June, there will be a $550 buy-in, non-bracelet tournament, designed to last just one day. Once again, $5,000 Ante Up For Africa Celebrity-Charity Tournament returns for the fourth year. Registration is already open for the 2010 World Series of Poker. Players can register in person at the Rio or online at wsop.com. Registration will remain open for an event until the start of the third level or until all seats have been sold. In order to avoid the sell out problem that was encountered in the Main Event last year, players will only be able to choose a starting day for the No-Limit Hold’em Championship until a certain day, which has yet to be determined. After that cut-off, starting days will be automatically assigned. The entire spring/summer portion of the 2010 WSOP will last 51 days, from May 27th till July 17th of the year 2010. Harrah’s will continue the new tradition of pausing the Main Event once the field is narrowed to the final table and bringing the remaining players, who are known as the “November Nine”, back in November.
This coming year, the November Nine will reconvene to determine a winner November 6th through November 9th.Jack Link’s Beef Jerky will once again be the presenting sponsor of the World Series of Poker, while Everest Poker will again see its logo on the felt of every table. Jack Link’s supplanted Milwaukee’s Best Light as the presenting sponsor in 2009, while Everest Poker replaced Party Poker in 2008. But there are now rumors that the whole event may be shifted to be scheduled in 2011.
Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. will soon emerge from bankruptcy with less debt, a commitment to sell one casino and plans for longer-term projects that could include the first gaming floor built directly over the ocean, said the company’s chief executive. After a 14-month bankruptcy battle, the company has started to under new ownership by a group of corporate bondholders headed by Marc Lasry and his Avenue Capital Group hedge fund. They are paying $225 million for the three Trump casinos and plan to slash the company’s debt from $1.7 billion to between $325 million and $335 million. Unlike the company’s two previous bankruptcies, in the early 1990s and in 2005, this time the casinos will emerge from Chapter 11 with far less debt, Trump Entertainment CEO Mark Juliano emphasized. A federal bankruptcy judge picked the bondholders over investor Carl Icahn in a takeover fight for Trump Entertainment.
The bondholders were backed by Donald Trump, who will receive as much as a 10 percent stake in the reorganized company. The company’s post-bankruptcy turnaround strategy includes selling the underperforming Trump Marina Hotel Casino and bringing in an investment partner to help expand Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino. Improvements are also planned at Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort. A joint venture partner for Trump Plaza would provide the financing for a new hotel tower or other upgrades. The casino has languished because the company has lacked the money for an extensive makeover. Juliano said that the sale of Trump Plaza shouldn’t happen because the depressed real estate market would prevent the company from getting an attractive price, despite the casino’s prime location. It is expected to see a lot more of Ivanka Trump in the coming months, as she becomes one of the main public faces of Trump Entertainment. Already familiar from Trump Entertainment billboards in and around Atlantic City dating from the days before she and her father quit its board amid the bankruptcy filing, the executive vice president of development & acquisitions for the Trump Organization will play a larger role in marketing Trump Entertainment as well.
Trump Marina, has suffered from its location in the Marina District, in the shadow of powerhouse competitors Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa and Harrah’s Resort. Trump Entertainment hopes to unload the Marina as soon as possible. One potential buyer is Richard T. Fields. Trump Taj Mahal will continue to be the company’s flagship operation. Juliano said upgrades are planned for the Taj Mahal’s spa and high-end slots area. In the longer term, the company will consider redeveloping the Steel Pier amusement park, directly across the Boardwalk, for a casino and hotel project. Previous plans to redevelop the Trump Entertainment-owned Steel Pier into a hotel or a luxury condominium project failed because of funding shortages. New ownership, is supposed to be strengthening Trump’s finances and also help the company make upgrades to attract more convention business and wealthier overnight customers, one analyst said. Morowitz also said the company will have more money just by keeping the Trump name. He noted that Trump Entertainment would have had to spend millions of dollars for the casinos if a deal was not struck with bondholders to retain the Trump moniker. The need to reinvent them to appeal to markets that are currently rejecting them and Atlantic City is urgent, said Cory Morowitz, a New Jersey casino analyst.
The operator of Philadelphia Park Casino and Racetrack, Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment Inc., was fined $24,000 by state regulators for two instances of allowing underage gambling. The instances were unrelated and happened at the Bensalem casino on July 6th in the year of 2008 and also on November 1st of 2008, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said Wednesday. The State law (The Racehorse Development and Gaming Act) strictly forbids slot machine gambling by individuals under the age of 21. The civil penalty was assessed by the Board at its public hearing in Harrisburg and stemmed from violations that occurred in 2008. In the July case, a 20-yea r-old male played slots for over an hour. In the second instance, an 18-year-old male walked past security guards without even being asked for identification.
He stayed there and even played the slots and also cashed a voucher. The State Police issued trespassing summonses to the underage offenders. In each case, employees of Philadelphia Park were disciplined, the regulators later had said. In one case, an employee was fired. The casino has also hired a new security director and vowed to be more vigilant. In June 2008, Philadelphia Park was fined $18,000 for allowing children as young as 2 years old onto the gaming floor. In a separate action, the Board fined a Canadian firm, Sprung Instant Structures, Inc. of Calgary, $5,000 for failing to comply with various requests of the Bureau of Licensing regarding the submission of necessary information needed to gain approval as a Certified Vendor. The company supplies and leases the structure that houses the temporary slots facility for The Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington County. In addition to the fine, Sprung Instant Structures agreed to reimburse the Gaming Control Board $28,000 for the projected cost to complete its investigation.
In a another incident gambling regulators in Pennsylvania also fined Mount Airy Casino Resort a whopping total of $100,000 on the basis of underage gambling charges. Gamblers between the ages of 17 and 20 have caught at the casino 6 times in the last year, four of which were reported by the casino. The incidents occurred between July and September 2009 when Pennsylvania’s gaming act made it illegal for anyone under 21 to operate slots and barred individuals under 18 from entering the gaming floor. Eight identification-scanning devices were also bought by Airy to help prevent underage individuals from accessing the floor in the future.
During the past 2 years, the board has levied fines 9 times for violation of underage gambling or minors on the gaming floor totaling $332,500.During the past two years; the Board has levied fines statewide on nine occasions. On January 7th, Act 1 of 2010 was signed by Governor Rendell which allows Pennsylvania casinos to add table games. In addition, the law immediately tightened restrictions for access to the gaming floor of casinos by making is unlawful for anyone “under the age of 21 to enter and remain in any area of the licensed facility where slots machines are operated or the play of table games is conducted”. Similarly, no one under the age of 21 can participate in the play of table games. While it has always been unlawful in Pennsylvania for persons under 21 years of age to operate or use slot machines, the Act previously placed the age restriction on entering the gaming floor of a licensed facility at the age of 18. free flash games
